Richard Alex "R.A." Robinson

January 8, 1948 — January 1, 2015

Mr. Richard Alex "R. A." Robinson, Jr. 66, of Woodbury passed away on January 1, 2015. He was born in Woodbury on January 8, 1948. His parents were the late Richard Alex Robinson, Sr. and Lizzie Belle (Davenport) Robinson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tiffany Robinson and a brother, Dewey Robinson. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Daveen Robinson of Murfreesboro; three brothers, John A. & Alice Robinson of Woodbury, Raymond & Linda Sue Robinson of Woodbury and James & Mildred Robinson of Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Joyce Pelham of Woodbury; four grandchildren, Alex Blake Robinson, Abbigail Grace Robinson, Lizabelle Autumn Robinson and Michael William Robinson all of Murfreesboro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Robinson grew up in a hard working family. He learned a great work ethic and carried it into his adulthood. He had just retired in May from 40 years of service in the maintenance department with Bemis formerly Paramount packaging. In his time there he had ten years of perfect attendance and was a very dedicated and respected employee. Mr. R. A. had a good sense of humor and was quick with a funny story. He enjoyed picking at family and friends in a good natured way. If you had an opinion about something he would take the opposite side just to see what you would say. He was always handy with fixing things. His family described him as being able to grow anything; grapes, flowers, cherries or even a hoe handle. Mr. R. A. had a gift as a bee charmer. He could gather a hive of bees without any equipment and never get stung. Many people also knew he could catch any kind of snake, including rattle snakes. He attended the Baptist Church and read his Bible often. He knew how to make a dollar. He was willing to take a risk to help a friend. On more than one occasion he loaned money to a friend for a business venture that turned out good. Even before he retired he began spending a lot of time with his son Alex helping with his lumber business. He had dreamed of them working together in the years to come. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, January 5, 2015 at 12 pm in the Smith Funeral Home chapel.
