Donald "Donnie" W. Barrett

Mr. Donald Wayne “Donnie” Barrett, 68, of Bradyville passed away on August 13, 2015. He was born on December 18, 1946 in Woodbury, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents C. L. Barrett and Louise (Gill) Barrett and two brothers, Jimmy Barrett and Pearson Barrett.He is survived by son, Wesley Barrett of Texas; three brothers, Dee (Joan) Barrett, Joe (Billie) Barrett, Bobby (Betty Bailey) all of Woodbury; Shirley (Allen) Moody of Murfreesboro and Mary (Tom) Effler of Kentucky; two granddaughters, Sarah Barrett of Murfreesboro and Haven Carter of Christiana; also by many nieces, nephews and cousins; and good friend Paul Weaver.Donnie grew up in a large, close knit and hard working family. He was the first of his family to be born in a hospital and his father and Dr. Adam’s had a bet whether he would be a boy or girl. His father won the bet and only owed Dr. Adam’s $4 for delivering him. The Barrett family always looked out for each other and worked together. Donnie had a mechanical mind. He loved to take things apart and put them back together to see what made them tick. He was a talented mechanic and could work on heavy equipment. His ability served him well over the years as he worked as a logger, dozer operator and welder. He was also known to invent more than a few odd things like, the electric lawnmower with a wood chassis and a washing machine motor, the three wheeled bicycle and walnut huller. He loved to go fishing, spend time with friends and laugh. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home Saturday, August 15, 2015 from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 2 pm in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Van Nichols will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
