Irene Ledbetter Gannon

Mrs. Irene Gannon, 93, of Woodbury passed away on December 4, 2016. She was born in Woodbury, TN on July 2, 1923. Her parents were the late Alton Ledbetter and Vassie Hobbs Ledbetter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alf Gannon; sisters, Eula Preston, Alice Dean Gannon, Margaret Davenport, Opal Stone, Pauline Bogle, Annie Bell Preston; brothers, Ben Ledbetter, Clyde Ledbetter, and James Ledbetter. She is survived by her sister, Emma (Ray) Clancy of Nashville; niece and caregiver Anna Nichols of Woodbury, and special friend and caregiver, Hazel Blair of Woodbury, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Irene was a devoted Christian lady and a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ. She was a hard-working lady who worked at Colonial Shirt Factory. She left the shirt factory to help keep a great nephew. She later went to work with the Head Start Program. She retired at the age of 89 and was still ready to work. Mrs. Irene wouldn’t sit still, she loved to cook and clean. She stayed so busy she wouldn’t take time to watch tv. She enjoyed listening to and singing gospel music. She had a special love for her nieces and nephews. When they were growing up she was always willing to help keep them and later, their children at any time. Anytime you saw Mrs. Irene she was smiling and loved to talk with people. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Monday, December 5, 2016 from 4-9 pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 1 pm in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Bro. James McDonald will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Clancy, Dale Bush, Maurice Bush, Harold Patrick, Lane Nichols, Zach Martin, and A. J. Neal. Active pallbearers will be Billy Nichols, T. J.
