Nellie Brown Mathis

Ms. Nellie Brown Mathis, 69, of Woodbury passed away on December 9, 2016. She was born in Woodbury, TN on May 7, 1947. Her parents were the late James Mathis and Mable Youngblood Mathis. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tammie Mathis; sisters, Annie Mae Mathis, and Daisy White Mathis; and a grandson, Billy Ferrell. She is survived by her husband, Robert Mathis; son, Johnny Darrell (Casey) Mathis of McMinnville; daughter, Dawn (Doug) Ferrell of Smithville; and grandsons, Lee Allen Ferrell, Jessie Glen Ferrell, and Willie Mathis. Ms. Mathis graduated Woodbury Central High School in the Class of 1968. She was a hard worker and worked two jobs a lot of the time to support her family. She worked as a Nurse Tech for Jackson Park Nursing Home in Nashville for many years. Cooking for her family gave her great joy. She was always willing to help her family in any way. She helped to take care of her mother in the last year or so before her passing. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 10-1 pm. Funeral services will immediately follow in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Al Bugg will officiate. Interment will be in Centerhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made through Smith Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
