Ruth Adean Coppinger

October 21, 1935 — July 18, 2017

Mrs. Ruth Adean Coppinger, 81, of Woodbury passed away on July 18, 2017 at her home after an extended illness. She was born on October 21, 1935. Her parents were the late Everette and Meda Phillips. Also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Glen M. Coppinger; siblings, Bill Phillips, Mazle Gannon, Earl Phillips, Junior Phillips, Margaret Brdar, Alice Hamlin, and David Phillips. She is survived by her children, Glena (Russell) Vance and Phillip (Jennifer) Coppinger both of Woodbury, Joyce Travis of Murfreesboro, and Gary (Tracy) Coppinger of McMinnville; grandchildren, Joshua Travis, Kelsey (Steven) Murphee, Samantha and Bradley Coppinger, and Paige and Jackson Coppinger; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Coppinger was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a hard worker at her public job with Colonial Shirt Factory and Val-Dor. Her true love and work was caring for her family. She enjoyed working in her garden, canning the vegetables she grew, and making clothes. When she became paralyzed, her faith, love for the Lord, and her family gave her courage to face things head on. She didn’t want to be a burden for her family and found ways to improvise and overcome obstacles. Knowing God had a plan kept her strong in her Christian faith. She made sure to pass on these values to her family. Her example of devotion to her family carried over, as her health began to fail they all pitched in to take care of her. They made it possible for her to stay in the comfort of her own home. She was member of the Smith Grove Church of Christ for over 53 years. Even though she couldn’t attend recently, she enjoyed hearing about things going on at church and reading the church bulletin. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 3-9 pm and on Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 8am-until time of the funeral at 2 pm. The service will be held in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Bro. John Summers will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
