Mrs. Barbara "Joan" Carroll George, 79, of Bradyville, Tennessee went on to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 6, 2025. She was born to the late Dixie and Quixie Milligan Carroll in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, July 20, 1946. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert "Bobby" (Jackie) Carroll.
She is survived by her husband, David D. George; sons, Micheal D. (Beth) George and Kevin D. (Katina) George both of Bradyville; brothers, Roy (Joni) Carroll and Rick (Sok Sun) Carroll; grandchildren, Andrea (Jackie) Myers, Heather (Evan) Sharp, Nathan (Brittany) George, Cole (Kelsie Foster) George, and Cassie (Ryan) Loftis; great grandchildren, Lucy George, Daisy George, Bryson Myers, Camryn Sharp, Audrey Sharp, and Ridge Loftis; uncle, Jimmy (Shirley) Milligan; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
"Short and sweet" was the request Joan made, but it is also one that simplified her stature, personality, and being. Yet, Joan added her own flare with her grit and determination. Though born in Chicago, she lived all over middle Tennessee in her youth. She graduated from Coffee County High School and went to MTSU for 2 years. Those two years proved pivotal in Joan's life.
In 1965, Joan committed her life to the Lord and was baptized. God came first in Joan's life, but she proved her virtue and worth to be far above rubies when she and David were wed on December 9, 1966. They came from simple beginnings, and Joan knew her purpose from the beginning. Genesis 2:18 "And the LORD God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." And so, "an help meet" Joan was.
"Can I help you?" or "How can I help?" rolled off her lips daily. She drove everything but a semi, caught hogs to trim their tails and teeth, and became known as the sweet corn lady and the woman that fried the best chicken livers in the world. She worked tirelessly to help her family and others. Joan was a longtime member of Leoni Church of Christ and known as "Mama Joan" to many.
"Grandma" became a sweet sound to her ears, but the children knew you better have manners at Grandma's house, and if the walls could only speak, you would hear a lifetime of laughs and cries, heartaches and sighs, and dreams and stories of how things will be.
You see, Joan's book is already written in how she lived her life. God gave her and David 8 years and 3 months of quality time together before Joan asked to be called home. God gave her a few more days to make her impact, and Joan's mantra in her last days was "See you in Heaven."
