Obituary

Mrs. Jacqueline "Jackie" Lynn Barrett, 48, of Bradyville passed away after an extended illness on January 3, 2026. She was born on October 20, 1977, in Woodbury, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Barrett and a brother, Charles Allen Barrett and a half-brother, Wayne Barrett.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Barrett of Bradyville sons, Jamal (Holly Eakes) Barrett of Murfreesboro, Javion Dunnaway of Maine, daughters, Sierra Howard of West Virginia, Georgia Wells of Maryland, and Elizabeth Barrett of Murfreesboro, sisters, Patricia Gomez, Cynthia Barrett, and Carol (Kevin) Matthews, half-brother, Tony Barrett, half-sisters, Norma Knox and Tiffany Holder, a grandson, Jai Elias Joshua Barrett, as well as, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born as one of five children. Her dad was well known in the community as a heavy equipment operator and somehow, he got tagged with the nickname, Jack which stuck. It wasn’t long before she picked up a similar nickname to her dad. Jackie, as many of her friends and family liked to call her, was a cut up. Her personality was such that you couldn’t miss it when she entered the room. Carrying on and having a big time was just her way. With her carefree fun-loving nature, you couldn’t help but like her.

Her dad worked a lot, but she and her siblings still had fun. She enjoyed going roller skating at the local rinks. She picked up a love for classic country music from her dad too. She liked to listen to Merle Haggard and Keith Whitley. As a young woman, life had some hard lessons for Jackie to learn. She was involved in a serious accident and had plates implanted in her head, in addition to reconstructing her sinuses. She endured the many surgeries and the rehabilitation with the love and care of her mother and family. It was probably around that time she became averse to going to the doctor. No matter how sick she was, Jackie refused to go to the doctor until it couldn’t be ignored.

After recovering, she set about following in her mother's footsteps. She had five children of her own. They were welcomed into the family and everyone pitched in to help raise them. Jackie liked to cook and when she made a batch of her banana pudding and peach cobbler, you had better get to the table quick if you wanted some. It was bound to be eaten in a hurry. More than a few times there were some jockeying for position to get a heaping helping. When she had spare time, she liked taking her kids to the movies. Spending time together was important to her. When she needed a way to relax her artistic side kicked in. She enjoyed art projects and coloring. Jackie also loved animals. One of her favorites was her Australian Shepherd she playfully named “D.O.G.”.

While having fun was always part of her personality, her mom wanted Jackie to know there was a time to be serious too. Mary took the kids to church at Full Gospel Assembly. Teaching them to cultivate a relationship with God and that her salvation was through accepting Jesus Christ. Jackie accepted Christ and was baptized. This foundation helped her face the struggles she faced with her health and the hand she was dealt in life. Her family can draw many happy memories from her fun-loving spirit and her determination to overcome what she faced.
