Morgan Cummings, 68, of Woodbury, Tennessee passed away on February 27, 2026, at his home. He was born in Woodbury, Tennessee on December 13, 1957, in the Good Samaritan Hospital. His parents were the late Ed Cummings and Josephine Mears Cummings. He was also preceded in death by his son, John Cummings.

He is survived by, his daughter, Amy (Jason) Batey of Murfreesboro, sisters, Connie (Rick) Reuhland of North Carolina and Louise (Lonnie) Holden-Hale of Auburntown, two grandchildren Morgan (Christopher Maradiaga) Murdock and Micah Stewart, and two great grandchildren, Max Maradiaga, and Lincoln Maradiaga, special friends, Karen and Robert Maddox, best friend, Johnny Harmon, and close friend Donna “Duck” Lopez, also several nieces and nephews.

Morgan was born into a well-known Cannon County family. His uncle, Jim Cummings, was a long-time state legislator. People may have thought that he would follow in his uncle‘s footsteps, considering that he was highly intelligent and good with numbers. Morgan marched to the beat of his own drum. Graduating Woodbury Central High, he went on to MTSU earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1984. Given his quirky and unconventional nature, Morgan was low-key and pretty much a homebody. He decided to go to work for the Cannon County Highway Department in the office. Initially handling a lot of the internal affairs for the department. He later transitioned into working with the rest of the road crew doing road maintenance and other jobs. He and his best friend Johnny spent a lot of time together. Morgan had taken up helping him do masonry and concrete projects in the latter part of his working years.

Morgan was always one who liked to cut up. Comical by nature, he would do whatever it took to get a smile on your face and a laugh in your belly. This personality trait served him well when it came to his artistic side. Morgan like to perform at the Cannon County Arts Center in many of their plays. His favorite roles as an actor were the comic roles. His artistic side also came out in projects that he would do. He liked wood carving, making sculptures from wire and other items. He would often craft special pieces for his grandkids, family and friends. He was also talented in drawing he kind of specialized in calligraphy to do custom fonts with people’s names. He also liked drawing still life images like flowers.

When one of his nieces was young, she couldn’t say his name, Morgan. All she could get out was “Bo” it’s stuck with him from then on. The grandkids would call him “Grand Bo”. Morgan had an affinity for numbers. He was good at all kinds of math. He especially liked connecting numbers, dates, and events with family birthdays. He was a numerologist of sorts. Morgan was also a collector. He couldn’t seem to find a reason to throw things out. He held onto them in hopes that they would someday provide useful. One of his other interests was herpetology, snakes. He would often find them in the wild and keep them for pets. He was fascinated with watching them.

Morgan lived life on his own terms. He liked to stay close to home, keeping things light with jokes and stories. Sharing his crafting talents with the people he cared about. His family can fondly remember his comical spirit paired with his artistic abilities.

A memorial visitation with the family will be held at Gentry-Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 2 to 6 PM.
