Johnny Albert Hoover

December 24, 1953 — July 17, 2025

Murfreesboro

Johnny Albert Hoover, born on December 24, 1953, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away on July 17, 2025, at his home after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Murfreesboro, Johnny was known for his dedication to his work and family, embodying the spirit of hard work and love that characterized his life.

Johnny spent many years as a roofer at Joe B. Jackson Construction, showcasing his craftsmanship and commitment to his trade. Following this, he enjoyed a long tenure of about 15 years with Tilford Lumber Company, where he was respected by colleagues and customers alike. In addition to his main jobs, Johnny had a side venture as a "junk man," where he helped his community by hauling away unwanted items, reflecting his helpful nature until his health began to decline.

Education was a means to an end for Johnny, who left school early to forge his own path in the world. He often spoke fondly of his childhood in a time when Murfreesboro was still a rural town. His parents instilled in him the importance of values and faith, regularly taking the family to attend Franklin Road Baptist Church in its humble beginnings.

Family was central to Johnny's life. He was a partial namesake of his father, Albert. He is survived by his sister, Carol (Joe) Tidwell of Murfreesboro, brothers James Hoover of Woodbury and Charles Hoover of Murfreesboro, and Gerry Hoover. He also leaves behind stepchildren George Brewer, Danny Brewer, and Sonja Brewer, along with several beloved nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.

Johnny's personality was quiet and reserved, revealing a more playful and sneaky side to those who took the time to know him. His romance with Diane Hoover was a testament to this; they fell in love quickly, and he embraced the thrill of their secret meetings before openly sharing their love for each other. Sadly, he is preceded in death by his wife, Diane, his parents, Albert Lee Hoover and Lillie Lorene Herman Hoover, and his siblings: Bobby Hoover, Terry Hoover, Barbara Jean Pope, and Linda Barlow.

Outside of work, Johnny cherished the simple pleasure of life. Growing up, he found joy in playing sports like basketball, softball, and kickball with his siblings and friends, often forming full teams from his own family. He also had a genuine passion for fishing and preferred the tranquility of a quiet morning with his coffee, reflecting his homebody nature.

Johnny Albert Hoover’s legacy will continue through the family and friends who loved him and the others he impacted throughout his life. His presence in their lives will be greatly missed but warmly remembered.
