Judy Reed Durkin

Judy Reed Durkin passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at home with her loved ones by her side at the age of 83. She was born in Woodbury, TN. Her parents were the late Paul Lee Reed and Rhea Brandon Reed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepson, John James Durkin III, her sisters-in-law, Carol Gartman Reed and Margaret Durkin Aus; and her brother-in-law, Donald Conn.

She worked during high school and college at Paul L Reed Furniture Company in Woodbury, TN.

After graduating from Woodbury High School and MTSU, she lived many years in Atlanta, GA and worked for Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies, where she met her husband, John James Durkin, Jr. They lived in Dunwoody, GA; Gallatin, TN; Palm Coast, FL; Woodbury, TN; and then Murfreesboro, TN during their final years.

Judy is survived by her husband, John James Durkin, Jr., and her three siblings: Patsy (John) Holden, Betty Conn, and Mike Reed. Stepdaughter, Kathy (Bob) Harris; Stepdaughter-in-law, Gail Ray Durkin; Step grandchildren: Beth (Joe) Huffaker, Brian (Jamie) Harris, Chrissy (Thomas Kolongowski) Harris, Sean (Christine) Durkin, and Tim (Megan) Durkin. Nieces and Nephews: Tara (Lea) Murphy, Brent Holden, Ryan Reed, Hayley (Josh) Rooker, Alisha Bryant Day, and Bart (MK Mills) Bryant. Several nieces, nephews, step-great grandchildren, and sisters-in-law, Anna Durkin Carr and Bernadine Durkin Farrish.

Her graveside service will be on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 1 pm in the Reed Family section of Riverside Gardens in Woodbury, TN. Visitation with the family will be at Gentry-Smith Funeral Home from 11 am until time to leave for the graveside on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Pallbearers will be family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cannon County Food Bank.
