Phillip Lynn Holt

Phillip Lynn Holt, 66, of Woodbury passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, after an extended illness. He was born in Woodbury, Tennessee on May 28, 1959. His parents were the late Joe Palmer Holt and Mildred Phillips Holt. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Jeremy Holt.

He is survived by his son, Richard Phillip Holt of Colorado, daughters, Stacey Holt and Lynn (Justin) Kelly both of Manchester, brother, Joel Holt of Nashville, grandchildren, Mason Trae Roberts, Merrick Thomas Kelly, Justin Kelly, Jr. and Kaitlynn Floyd, niece and nephews, Amy Lines, Marty Holt and Justin Holt.

Phillip was born and raised in Woodbury and developed a deep abiding love for his hometown. No matter how far he traveled away, his path always led him back home. It seemed from the start he was drawn to animals. He would often go horse riding. Over the years he enjoyed having a variety of animals as part of his life, including birds, fish, and dogs. Horses weren’t the only type horsepower he was attracted to. As a young man he got a dirt bike and spent many hours riding it out in the country. Being born during the baby boom following WWII and the growth of our country opened the door to a new world. Phillip decided to be the master of his future.

He determined to make his way in the world earlier than many of his peers. He left school before graduation and decided go to work as a truck driver. It was a way for him to earn a living while seeing different parts of the country. One of his first truck driving jobs was with Weaver Transportation in Woodbury. Over the years he worked at several different companies. One of them was for Neely’s Livestock hauling hogs. That job earned him the CB handle “Hog Head” which stuck with him from then on.

He was sure to have heard many people try to make light of his CB handle. It didn’t faze him. He always had a quick come back. Firing back with his quick wit and a funny saying, a trademark of his personality. Cutting up and carrying on with his friends was normal for him. The music of the 70’s made an impression on him. It was certain when he was on the road in his rig, he would be cranking out some of his favorite tunes. Especially, from Credence Clearwater Revival.

Living life on the road wasn’t easy. Phillip could feel the pull of Woodbury drawing him back home. He decided to embark on a different career path. Hiring on with a local electrician, Arlin Reed, he learned the trade. They worked together for many years, until his health began to fail. At that point he had to rely on his family for the support he needed. He loved his children and grandchildren and they were there when he needed them. Being back home with family close by made him feel at peace.

Visitation will be held at Gentry-Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 11-1 pm. Funeral services will follow in the Gentry-Smith Funeral Home chapel at 1 pm. Greg Mitchell will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Riverside Cemetery Association.
