James "JD" Ray Dillard

October 2, 1959 — August 29, 2019

Mr. James Ray “JD” Dillard, 59, of Woodbury passed away on August 29, 2019 with family at his side. He was born in Nashville, TN on October 2, 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Dillard and Susie Mai Pack Dillard; a brother, John Dillard; a sister, Mary Edith Dillard; and a granddaughter, Kaylee Cooper.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara Dillard of Woodbury; four daughters, Christina (Christian) Colon of Woodbury, Jennifer (Jr. Young) Dillard of St. Cloud, FL, Dara (Jonathan) Cooper of Woodbury, and Jamie (Josh Womack) Dillard of Bradyville; three sisters, Florence (Johnny) Crook of Pleasant View, TN, Elizabeth Sue Biggs of Ashland City, Shirley Hollis of Nashville, and Deborah (Calvin) Allison of White House; also by eleven grandchildren.

He was a simple man, when you’d see him, he’d just be wearing an old t-shirt, shorts, and probably not any shoes. His family joked he was just an old hippie, with his long hair and beard. He loved and took care of his family. When he was young, he dropped out of school to help take care of his mother and youngest sister. The family knew him to be a little on the stubborn side, someone who wouldn’t quit, and could make friends easily. He would show everyone respect as long as they did the same for him. He was passionate about fixing cars. He could listen a car and tell you what was wrong with it. He worked as a mechanic for many years and as a hobby for a lifetime. He could do most anything he put his mind to and worked finishing drywall for several years too. He also loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, classic rock, and classic country music, the louder the better.

Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, September 1, 2019 from 12-2pm. Funeral services will follow in the Smith Funeral Home chapel at 2 pm. Will officiate.
